WordPress Version 3.5.2 Is Available!

By Nile Flores 29 Comments

wordpressthumbnail-1WordPress version 3.5.2 is available for users to upgrade to. This version addresses some maintenance ad security issues. Some of the fixes were also to harden the WordPress core.

I know that there are a lot of people that have been looking forward to WordPress version 3.6 to finally be released, but this one is important so update as soon as you can. This year has been a hotbed of brute force and DDoS attacks.

As per the WordPress.org official news on version 3.5.2, Andrew Nacin says the following issues have been tackled:

  • Ability to block server-side request forgery attacks.
  • A fix on the contributors roles, like not allowing users under that level to publish posts or change a post’s authorship (NOTE: which even though it was reported recently, this has been a long time problem… surprised this one took years to finally patch up.)
  • An update to the SWFUpload external library to fix cross-site scripting vulnerabilities.
  • Prevent denial of service attacks, especially sites using password-protected posts.
  • An update to an external TinyMCE library to fix a cross-site scripting vulnerability.
  • Several fixes for cross-site scripting.
  • Avoid disclosing a full file path when a upload fails.

As for version 3.6, no worries, it will be ready when it is ready. Thanks to the volunteers and staff at WordPress.org for keeping on top of things!

I have to say at the last WP update prior to this one – when update was pressed I lost the site – so although I have seen the update button – I am rather nervous to press update…it was a nightmare last time to recover and very frustrating – have changed hosts since then…so maybe it will be OK….?
I presume you have to update to this to get future updates anyway?

I’ve upgraded two sites okay, but my site with w3 total cache refused to upgrade until I’d disabled it. then the upgrade went through with no problems.

I actually had the same problem. Then when I reactiviated W3 my images were all messed up so I had to disable it. Been watching out for a W3 update to fix the issue.

Thanks for the tip off, Nile.

I opened a new tab before posting this comment and upgraded, especially because of all the security issues that have been swirling around WP these days. It upgraded in seconds without a hitch, but I’m always terrified to press the little upgrade now button, especially when I read nightmare stories, like the one Sarupa tells in her comment to this post.

I know there’s protocol to follow, but I just close my eyes, say a quick prayer and click the upgrade button. Not the best method, I’m sure.

    Hi Nile,

Thanks for the update. I like when WordPress updates because it always seems to be an improvement. A couple of years ago I read a post by Kimberly Castleberry about waiting a week or so after WordPress upgrades, just to make sure all is well. I always wait a week or so as she advised. So far I’ve never had any upgrade issues.

Since security has been an issue recently…more than usual, it looks like WordPress has stepped up to the plate. I don’t see very many visible improvements, like the last one. A major change in the last upgrade was the media center. It took on a completely different look and function. Regardless, I appreciate the improvements.

Thanks for the notification about the latest update. I always wait for at least once month before the notice of an update is circulated as I was told that puts one on the ‘safe side’.

    Hey Nile!

I love the new update! Now I know we are supposed to do the back up thing but I took a chance and just pressed the button. Voila! I am grateful I didn’t lose my site he he.

Sometimes I just do things intuitively. This was the case. Maybe it’s a gamble, but it worked fine.

Security has been one of my concerns and with this update, I do feel more confident. Thanks for the heads up!

I’m one of those waiting for 3.6 version but this recent version(3.5.2) will do. Been using this new version and have not encountered any security issues, at least not yet.

Think I will just wait for 3.6, whenever that actually is done. Did not see so much use in upgrading to 3.5.2

It is under the Links section. You will have to drag and drop a widget into your theme that is for links.

I dread when WP updates come around, because I’m never sure what to expect. I always wait a couple of weeks before doing it, and now that time period is up, so I guess it’s time for action…
