Slidedeck is a jquery slideshow plugin for WordPress. For users unable to build a content slider, this might be a nice option. Slidedeck comes in two versions: a free version and a PRO version. The PRO version costs, but you have the ability to customize the plugin further.
Even with just the free version, it is a pretty good jquery slider. You can specify the size, what type of posts (example: recent, featured, or popular posts), and the navigation type.
(Please right click on image to open in a new window.)
To implement the plugin into your site, you can either include a PHP generated code snippet into your theme or create a different slideshow for individual posts (example: blog entries with multiple photos.)
If you use this plugin for your content slider, you will have to put the image in your post, and no, not just as a thumbnail, but within the post (grabs the first pic available.) I really would like to see this plugin take advantage of including that option in the future at least for the freebie version. It would make things a lot easier. However, even if there are no images, the text for the post will take up the whole area at least.
Have you tried this plugin?

This is really a great pluin Nile. I have found about it some couple of weeks ago and I installed the Lite version (free) on one of my sites to take it for a spin. Verdict? I am loving it. It adds a bit more of flare to a blog post and saves some space too ๐ Depending on some cyber deals coming up, I mght just jump in the PRO version ๐

I like it. Makes me want to build a website just so I could use it (which is a bad reason to do anything).

I used to think that slider plugins helped decrease bounce rate, since they scream “Click me!”, but as I tracked if anyone was clicking on those posts, I realized that besides slowing my blog down, it’s doing diddly. lol

Hi Ana! It depends on the site. Sometimes the slider for feature posts do not work and this could be due to the fact that not every blogger is as visual and graphically talented. Slidedeck in particular, I have seen some pretty cool uses, but I think that the most effective ones are the ones that are carefully designed. I do not use Slidedeck personally, but a couple of my clients use it for their business and we put together a series of well designed images that have become a great conversion tool.
Some things work for some sites and sometimes not for others. ๐

Hi Nile,
Thanks for this. I am thinking about using SlideDeck Lite. But I can’t find out from the SD site how to add the player to a particular page. Can you explain? Say, I create a new deck. Is code generated that I copy and add to the page where I want the deck?
I have this sneaking suspicion from some support Q&As that the players is automatically added to every page and that I have to somehow adjust code so that it, for instance, just appears on my homepage.
Thanks for any insight you can provide!
Nile says
No, the player is not added to every page, but there is a button that is put in your WordPress backend where you create, add, or edit new posts or pages.
