I was checking my Google Webmaster Tools and found a few errors with my links. I have gone through opening and closing sites. The number of sites are more than a dozen.
However, with this site, I found 9 errors within my site dealing with dead links. So, if you have not used the Google Webmaster, Tools, perhaps you should really consider it. You can learn a lot. Dead links are important to take care of and depending if you blog quite a bit, this will save you the time. The tool tells you where the dead links were found.
Now, it is a no brainer that most know dead links should be removed, but how many really go through older posts to look for old sites that are dead? Even further, do you look for internal pages that you linked that you have either removed or in the case of WordPress, changed the permalink structure? Most of the time external dead links are removed while the internal ones collect dust. Even if you did not have much faith in Page Rank, this is definitely another reason why you should use Google Webmaster Tools.
LOL, I usually keep up with my blog roll but I’ve never actually thought of checking my older posts for dead links. I’ll have to log into my webmaster tools and check it out. 🙂

I will start using the Google Webmaster Tools. I used the http://website.grader.com/ to point out some basics I had not taken care of. Thank you for covering an important detail in keeping things running under the hood.
I don’t know with myself but I don’t really care about dead links except if the links are within my site.

HI Rozeh! That is the point of using the Google Webmaster tools. After all those blog entries and especially if you have been blogging on the same site for the past few years, then there are bound to be a lot of dead links due to either you having changed the page structure on your site or perhaps linking to another site.
If another is still linking to a dead link on your site, it would also be great to contact them so your site no longer has that error.

This is good advice. Did you know there's a WordPress plugin that does this too? It's called Broken Link Checker; I use it a lot.
