Presentation: Avoiding Bloggers Block

By Nile Flores 43 Comments

Avoiding Bloggers Block is a presentation I did at WordCamp Atlanta 2012 to address issues that bloggers of any niche may encounter when trying to fuel their block with more content.

I have embedded the presentation in a couple formats: the powerpoint and a podcast. I talk a lot about blogging and content generation, but I keep getting asked by clients – “What do I write about on my blog?”

I hope that this helps you and if you still have questions, feel free to ask.

From my opinion “”Content”” is the king in any site/blog. Every blogger should try to make their blog post useful for each and every person and it should be in easy language also.

I like your presentation, you can tell in your writing you like to connect with your readers and have been doing so for a while, I also agree content is king by far. If you want people to actually come back you need to have something for them to come back to – Thumbs up

While content is extremely important I think that external SEO once again is The King. Getting enough people to link back to you seem to proper even poorly written content to the top of search engines, unfortunately!

    Nile,

I’ll bet your presentation was superb! Writer’s block happens… along with some other stuff. It’s not fatal. Getting in touch with your passions and sharing should really do the trick. Maybe is might seem like you’ve said it before, but everything is as new as today is.

Thanks for your insights and contribution.

I like how you say to write from your passion. That is what keeps a blogger going.

    Nile,
I was unable to listen to your audio because it said “File not found.” As for bloggers block, when I am writing regularly, it becomes so easy to get inspired to write another blog post. However, when I am preoccupied with tasks, e.g., getting my tax papers in order, it becomes more difficult to access my creative thinking and decide upon a topic to write about.

    Nile,
This was a great slideshow and gave me lots of ideas. You have stumbled upon a topic that most face each week to keep their blogs alive.

I have found for years if you write about your passion as you live it. You never run out of things to say. Everyday is an adventure and you write about your expriences supporting others with their issues. How to overcome obsticles that will pop-up when people are just making attempts to survive.

I have choosen over 20 years ago to dedicate my time doing for others. I write to empower all from my research and lifetime experiences related to making a difference and creating a real lifestyle. Not just having a life. Big difference which most find it hard to understand.

Nile, you very active in all communities and it is a deep honore to have met you. I love your approach on each subject that is presented. You give first and that is what attracts people to you.

Thank you for keeping quality alive and giving all hope for better content that is usable. People like yourself make a huge impact on me.

I look forward in learning more of your techniques in the very future. Loving your style!

    Hi Niles…
I have experienced “blogger’s block” maybe once or twice. It can be very frustrating. You made some great points on how to mitigate the problem and I love the idea of doing a blog post in PPT. Very cool! I discovered a very simple way to avoid having blogger’s “subject block”. I made a list of 10-15 topics that I can research & write about…it seems that can be the biggest challenge for experienced bloggers. the title sets the tone.
    Thanks…

The thing is that SEO will come naturally if you just take in some of the rules. Some places rank high (like my site) and I do not do much SEO at all. WordPress ALREADY comes SEO-ready out of the box. If you take in a few basic SEO tips for content writing and make sure your theme code is semantically ready for the search engines, you should be fine. People focus way too much on SEO.

Thank you very much for the reply! I thing the important of content is 70%, and SEO is 30% left. Doing good SEO will help a lot in case we have similar content with other blog (not the same content, but both mention the same thing). Moreover, many people chose blogger too, which is SEO is not friendly as wordpress.

    Hi Nile,
Great slideshare presentation! Writer’s block is a huge issue for me. I have many years of experience in health and yet it is still challenging for me to write because I have so much going on in my life and very little time to put fingers to keyboard! However my readers are suggesting topics so that will be very helpful! I love your research tips – that will help a lot to remind me of issues I can help others with!

    regards

    Nile,

I just love it when technology works so smoothly! I just clicked play on the audio and it was obvious when I needed to click to a new slide. I like the way that you don’t go too fast or slow. Just right. Content is King and Visitors are Queen! But really only when you and Kimberly are visiting me site! 🙂 Great slides, great information. And it’s a great topic! This is something everyone wonders about! What do I write about? I am going to share this on my FB Fan Page and syndicate, too!

    Take CAre,

Thanks Jupiter Jim! I appreciate it and I am no expert at powerpoint, but I try. My powerpoint had my Diavolo font in the titles… but Slideshare does not translate them over right…le sigh.

Me…a queen… nah, but I guess when I get a warm welcome on your site… I definitely feel like one. Thanks! 😀

You present great ideas here about how to never let your tap run dry, Nile. And I appreciate you for that.

As an author, I know all about writer’s block. Ditto as a blogger. One way I avoid these blocks is by having a set time when all I do is write. When you’re committed to something, the words and ideas come on their own.

Another way your tap will never run dry is if you stay curious. That’ll connect you with the right stuff out there. The day you cease to be curious is the day you die.

It is not unusual for me to get writer’s block as a wedding & portrait photographer because I am posting basically the same things time after time. Content is key, but making every post try to sound a little different from the previous 10 can be a difficult task. Luckily, the brides and grooms I have give me little tidbits of their personal lives that I can try to throw in there to make their wedding unique.

Thank you for the tips. I needed this! 🙂
