Podcast Presentation: Intro to WordPress Theme Development- Tweaking Your Theme

By Nile Flores 25 Comments

I originally presented Tweaking Your Theme at WordCamp Louisville. I originally intended it to be more of an introduction as it was not to delve deep into code and was just a start. I hope some of the tips and information help you if you are newer to WordPress theme development.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via the comments on this or even on Slideshare. If you are on Slideshare, I recommend that you follow me on Slideshare as well as I deliver a different presentation at each of the WordCamps I speak at.

Cool presentation. Although I’m not accustomed with php, I want to custiomize a little the themes I use. Therefore, I think your lesson is a good starting point.

Been a few weeks since I dropped by your site. Loving the slideshows.

To be honest I am a bit clueless when it comes to coding for wordpress. I always look for short cuts. But I know where to come when I need some help! 🙂

Thanks for this post. I am somewhat new to this, and the link is to my newest blog. I am trying to build an authority site, which specializes in the cultivation of this species of rare and beautiful plants.

I will certainly look at changing my font selections.

Thanks for the share, I have been a blogger user for some time now, and I have just started using wordpress. Its a completely different level from tweaking wordpress compared to blogger which for me is easier to tweak (and that coming from a guy with now website programming background).

Hope to hear more from you, God Bless.

WordPress is actually a lot easier to tweak. However, I have done a lot of different platforms. I think it depends on where you start out. Those using the WordPress.com feature may have difficulty tweaking their site due to the fact that it limits you to choosing a theme and editing the CSS of the theme.

Awesome info! I was honestly just thinking about something similar to this other day so, it was almost weird when I ran across this. You would be surprised how many people simply have no idea when it comes to this kind of stuff. Anyway, thanks for getting this cool info out there and I am sure I am not only one who appreciates you taking time to post this for masses.

Nile, what’s your opinion on plugin hooks. For example, I have a plugin called Simple Hooks for Genesis, which is my framework. Since I’m a programming ignoramus, I’m hoping this can help me add the snippets I need to without loading up on plugins.
