Happy 13th Birthday, WordPress!

By Nile Flores 13 Comments

happy-13th-birthday-wordpress-200x200Over 13 years ago, on March 27th, WordPress came to be. It was forked from b2 cafelog by Mike Little and Matt Mullenweg. From there, WordPress grew from being just another blog platform, to a full-fledged content management system. For me, I’ve been there through it’s journey.

In fact, I see WordPress much like it’s a kid. My own son was a little over 6 months old when WordPress came to be. Then my son was small. WordPress was small too. 13 years later, my son is taller than me, and WordPress has become a software that powered 26% of the websites that exist online today. It has been really amazing to see the growth with WordPress, as the software, and WordPress, as a community.

If it were for the community, WordPress wouldn’t be where it is today. It’s grown because of it’s mission to democratize publishing. It’s grown because of the community has been warm, friendly, and inclusive.

This post isn’t about selling anyone on WordPress. It’s about celebrating a community who has come together. It’s about celebrating the person living in their home, who can have a voice. It’s about celebrating business owners who can’t afford much, but can build and make money with their website. It’s about anyone wanting to have a voice online.

Every time I meet a reader from Blondish.net, another presenter, or any WordPress user at a WordCamp or local WordPress Meetup group, I’m amazed. There are people discovering WordPress. Some with great enthusiasm, some with timidness, and some with skepticism. There are people helping these new users out of kindness because they were helped by someone else when they had first started WordPress. It really is a wonderful thing and makes me feel great to be a part of the WordPress community.

The WordPress community has changed the world. Sure other CMS have done a really great job too. However, it’s not their anniversary, and I really only talk about WordPress unless it is converting Drupal to WordPress. Happy 13th Birthday, WordPress!

Happy 13th Birthday, WordPress! I have been using WordPress since 2007! At that time not much of features we can use but I always remember “The code itself is a poem”. WordPress is really an amazing program. Without it many things we still need to edit via coding!

Code is definitely poetry. I agree. Of all the software I’ve tried before going to b2 cafelog, and then WordPress, WordPress has been the best decision to stay with for years.

That’s awesome that you’ve been with WordPress since 2007. 🙂

You’ve actually followed WordPress for such a long time to know all these little and big details about them. Having blogged only on the blogger platform for years now, i haven’t tried out wordpress. But colleagues of mine who use this platform have found it to be reliable and credible, and most say it’s easier to optimize a site for search engines using wordpress, although i don’t know how true this is since i haven’t tried it. I intend creating my next site on wordpress with the use of its themes, time to try something new even though i’m more familiar with the blogger interface.

Happy birthday in arrears wordpress, you’ve helped millions make a living.

You’ve got to be careful about keeping your website on Google Blogger. One guy recently lost his Blogger blog without any reason. I recently wrote an article that sites like Blogger, you may own your words, but the platform you place it on, won’t guarantee it will be there forever.

Moving from Blogger to WordPress is easy, and the hosting is not that expensive. You may want to try migrating there or finding someone to do it for you.

As an avid user of WP! I wanna celebrate its 13th Birthday, though of late. However; this post has unusual appeal to most WP users like me. It’s WP that made me a web developer without knowing that much CODE. Great achievement by WP is that it is used by more than 26.4% of the top 10 million websites (April 2016). I personally feel pride of being a part of this journey.

Glad thirteenth Birthday, WordPress “The code itself is a ballad”. WordPress is truly a stunning project. Without it numerous things regardless we have to alter by means of coding! Code is certainly verse. I concur. Of all the product I’ve attempted before going to b2 cafelog, and after that WordPress, WordPress has been the best choice to stay with for a considerable length of time.
