Graphic: Invest In Your Brand

By Nile Flores 36 Comments

I put together a simple graphic with a saying I am passionate about. I have noticed bloggers jumping into having their blog hosted under a larger network that plasters their brand on top of every blog within their community. This does not help the blogger at all in building a business or even their brand.

The graphic below says: Don’t let another brand hijack your brand because you are cheap. Invest in your business.

Yes – The first golden rule of any Business: Protect your investments. And in my professional opinion when it comes to branding your business end exposing it online it’s one of the biggest and best investments one can make. Be unique – take initiative. People are looking for something unique – something that can set you apart from your competitors.

Hi Nile. When I first started thinking about blogging, I used a well known free service and then used an inexpensive service that allowed you to drag and drop widgets and other apps.

While it was convenient and user friendly, I began wanting to do things that I could not because I did not have control – they did. Plus, they have their brand all over the place. If you wanted it off, you had to pay much more.

My opinion is that it is best to get your own hosting account and learn WordPress. It’s getting easier and easier!

    Nile,
Isn’t it the one thing we treasure the most in life? Control? We tend to forget what we’re fighting for, the investment in time and brain power is the cost, recognition the reward. Giving any of that real estate away because someone else gets to post their ad or banner above us is just plain silly.

Thank you for an excellent point of view.

Nile I think it’s good when you can bundle a lot of different techniques or tools together in one place. The more you can offer the more someone will remember your name which is a part of branding you name.

    Nile,

I know what you are saying and it is obvious to me what “network” you are talking about. It’s been a long slow build to build my brand “Jupiter Jim’s Marketing Team” but it’s my brand. It’s not anybody else’s and it’s not affiliated with anyone else’s brand. No one has any say over how I build, create or promote my brand. I don’t need to be influenced by any other network and I don’t owe them anything. If I want to work with you, I can and that’s cool! It’s my brand and I do what I want with it.

    Take Care,

    Jupiter Jim

hmmm … I do not quite follow your point about brand investment. What do you mean the content focus of our blog? if that meant, well I agree.
My problem is still difficult to focus on one issue in my blog. I always write down anything that comes to my mind.
Maybe that’s why my blog stilll has no brand 😉

Having a cheap brand doesn’t mean you are cheap and you let other people grab it. You have your own rights and it doesn’t matter if it is cheap or not. THAT IS YOUR RIGHT. Thanks for the huge fonts, Nile. That is so true about what you wrote up there.

    Hi Nile,

I think this is absolutely true. You definitely want to brand yourself and not someone else. However, I also think some people may not have the finances at first so in those cases you have to start somewhere and work your way up. Most of us have probably had a free blog at one time or another.
