I could list a lot of awesome reasons to start a blog, but as I thought about it, I whittled them down to 11. I just didn’t think 15 or 35 were needed because the ones I came up with actually encompassed what I wanted to say. I’ve seen quite a few articles on this, and it’s ridiculous to string out a ton of reasons.
These are the ones that mattered to me when I first started blogging years ago. Whether you’re about to begin your blogging journey, have been blogging for a few months or few years, let me know how many of these awesome reasons to start a blog had intrigued you.
11 Awesome Reasons to Start a Blog
1. You really love writing.
To develop a really good blog, you’re going to have to write a lot. That means, on some level, you like to write. If you don’t, then your posts will seem really dull, and people will get that your heart isn’t into it.
2. You want to meet and connect with other people.
Putting your thoughts online is a definite cry for attention. No matter what niche, you are allowing anyone to happen to visit your blog, and get to know you. It’s quite fine, and a very natural thing to want to reach out to others.
3. You can express yourself and build confidence that you can’t do when speaking in person.
Not everyone is outgoing and loves to be in the middle of a crowd. Your blog gives you a comfortable platform to still express yourself without creating a bunch of anxiety, and blogging can build your confidence too.
4. Blogging is free.
Initially, it’s free to blog. It’s really like a virtual journal. If you’re not certain if you want to make money with your blog, you can always get a blog on a free blog host like WordPress.com or Blogger.com.
5. You can make a difference in someone else’s life.
You might have a cause that you support, or love to help people. Your words can make someone’s day, make them money, and inspire them to do something extraordinary.
6. It helps you build trust and authority in your niche.
If you’re wanting to become influential in your niche, blogging can help share your knowledge with others. Those who benefit from your knowledge will tell others. They also may hire you or even collaborate with you.
7. You can use your blog to become published.
As you create more content on your blog, you will amass enough to be able to publish and sell. Just because you wrote on your blog, doesn’t mean the content stays there. Publishing a book is just one of many mediums that your content should be appearing on.
8. You can build better writing skills, as well as gain other great skills.
As you write, you will need to think about keyword research, especially if you wish to rank better with your blog articles. You can mix in your unique writing style, your knowledge, and also utilize keyword research to deliver blog posts that your readers will want to read. Also, in time, as you write, you will become better at expressing yourself, and can explain specific topics with ease.
9. You can make money blogging.
Within a few months of beginning to blog, if you’ve been blogging regularly, you can think about monetizing your blog. There are a lot of different methods including ecommerce, affiliate marketing, advertising, and much more. It’s not going to be a get rich quick kind of thing, but over time, and with work, you can make money blogging.
10. You can learn a lot of things through your blogging journey.
You might be a person that knows a lot of things, but there’s always more to know. You will eventually have to research topics, interview influencers, and much more, in order to deliver some topics blog posts. Always be prepared to learn, and you’ll always have something to blog about.
11. You don’t really need to know how to blog.
Just write. Blogging isn’t a perfect art. Better writing comes with time and practice. Your blog voice comes with time and practice. Yes, you may need to know how to use a blog platform or content management system, like WordPress, but technically, you could start blogging in Microsoft Word or Google Docs, and carry it over to a live blog when you’re ready. I’ve found that people fear starting their first post because they want things to be perfect. Again, blogging isn’t perfect… just write!

Nice post! Some of the reasons here are pretty basic, but that’s exactly what blogging is all about. Providing newbie bloggers and reminding the hardcore bloggers WHY you should be and are blogging are important for them to serve a purpose when publishing content online. You want them to have an end goal and not just build a blog “for the sake of it.”
Also, I included your article in my blog http://christopherjanb.com/blog/write-wednesday-vol-5 because I think I need to remind my readers about the simple yet important reasons to blog. Hope this is fine with you. Keep up the good work!
