#WordPressWednesday 2015 Volume #3

By Nile Flores 2 Comments

wordpresswednesday-event-thumbnail#WordPressWednesday is here! On Blondish.net, it means that I’ve taken the time to round up a few articles from around the WordPress community. I find it important to keep on top of news, regardless if you’re a user or if you’re really involved in the WordPress project.

If you’ve noticed, I’ve started putting a little bookmark icon next to each article. I don’t put my roundups in unordered lists, but I’ve come to find that the way I’ve been putting the links together had looked a tad messy.

Aside from that, I’ve started to expand on giving a short summary. AND… this week’s #WordPressWednesday will start with 15 articles, rather than the 10-12 links.

I hope you enjoy them. Let me know what you liked in the comments below. Also, I’ve got a question at the end of this and need your feedback. Thanks! 🙂

WordPress Plugins

Brian Krosguard gives a tip on an ability that can be finally done at WordPress.com – Quick tip: Disconnect Jetpack from the WordPress.com side.

Joost de Valk announces that WordPress SEO 2.2 is available. Time to upgrade. You can read the post to see what security fixes were applied, as well as some of the changes.

Bharath Mandava shows us how to add a tooltip to social icons using a plugin – How to Add Social Icons with Tooltips in WordPress.

Ahmad Awais gives us a great intro guide to WooCommerce – The Beginners Guide to WooCommerce: Introduction.

Bob Dunn shows us in-depth about the WP Featherlight plugin – WP Featherlight: A Useful Lightbox for WordPress Images and Galleries.

WordPress Themes

Shaun Quarton passes the word on that Easy Digital Official Downloads Themes are Now Free. I don’t think I need to summarize that. 😉

WordPress Tutorials

WPBeginner shows us a couple ways on How to Add a Border Around an Image in WordPress. The article shares a plugin, as well as how to add CSS to your theme’s style sheet to do the same thing.

Make.WordPress.org

Ryan Boren posts on Trust, Live Preview, and Menus in the Customizer. This has also been an area where some people like the idea, and others don’t like it.

John Blackbourn talks about Site icon and image cropping controls.

Boone Gorges addresses on Eliminating shared taxonomy terms in WordPress 4.3.

WordPress Community News

Sarah Gooding posts a call out to WordPressers for feedback – WordPress Theme Review Team Seeks Feedback on the Review Process, Themes, and the Directory.

Chris Lema discusses The Developer’s Dilemma – Efficiency or Expertise? What method works best for your own workflow?

Rachel Adnyana shares some productivity tips – 8 Killer Tips and Tricks To Skyrocket Your Productivity in WordPress.

Carrie Dils asks – Is There a Market for Premium Genesis Themes? While the article was written in May 2015, I think it would be a great read, especially if you’ve been contemplating on getting into making premium Genesis child themes.

Joe Fylan gives us something to think about when adding video backgrounds to your website – Video Backgrounds for WordPress: When and How to Add Them to Your Website.

Just out of question, I’m been mulling around the idea of having a regular #WordPressWednesday special podcast each week. It would be separate from this roundup, but I would mention some of the news, as well as a WordPress tip or talking about a plugin or theme.

This comes in time with the fact I’ve been putting together a regular podcasting schedule, and I think I could squeak in 2 podcast sessions a week. 🙂 Let me know if you’d listen to a 10-15 minute #WordPressWednesday podcast.

What was your favorite news this week?
