#WordPressWednesday 2014 Volume 3

By Nile Flores 11 Comments

wordpresswednesday-event-thumbnailWednesdays are for #WordPressWednesday here at Blondish.net, as well as my Facebook group, All About WordPress. This event not only encourages bloggers to share their most recent WordPress articles in the Facebook group, but for me to pick a nice slice of posts from the entire WordPress community to be featured.

The goal is to hopefully make it easier for you to read, as I’m sure some of you have a lot of websites to go through. I know that I will miss a few goodies here and there, but I do hope this is a good spread. I’ve conveniently allowed the links to open in a new window so you can just click out of the article and read another one. 🙂

WordPress Plugins

Kimberly Castleberry shares a plugin that allows you to add custom CSS to a post or page in WordPress. Now, you can also do this with some themes that add an extra area for styling, or directly to your theme’s stylesheet, but this allows you to not have to fool around with looking for code on the post or page ID, nor does it involve messing with your chosen theme.

Joe Fylan shares a roundup of in-line front editor plugins for WordPress.

WordPress Themes

Brian Gardner invites us to take a close look at the AgentPress Pro child theme for the Genesis framework. It’s a theme built for real estate websites.

WordPress Tutorials

WPBeginner shows us How to Switch from JetPack Subscription to MailChimp, AWeber, etc.

Kevin Muldoon tells us How To Stop Search Engines From Indexing Specific Posts And Pages In WordPress.

Devesh Sharma shares with us on How to Import Your WordPress Content From One Website to Another. Please note that this is importing one WordPress site to another, and can also be known as migrating or cloning.

WordPress Community News

Chris Lema talks about four mistakes WordPress theme vendors make. Psst… you might want to read his entire series.

Nick Schaferhoff introduces some tools for A/B split testing in WordPress.

Just a heads up, but Ahsan Parwez of Cloudways hosting recently interviewed me: Interview With Nile Flores: “WordPress Needs Better Built-In Search.”

Jeff Chandler brings up the interesting question of… Are The Days Of Paying Less Than $100 For A WordPress Theme Over?

Daniel Cid at Sucuri informs us of a vulnerability… once again with TimThumb – TimThumb WebShot Code Execution Exploit (0-day). Just a note, this has been an off and on thing for years that some of us older WordPress users keep seeing from time to time. The vulnerabilities are usually different, but it’s important to be aware that TimThumb is used in quite a few WordPress themes and even some plugins out there. If you’re not certain, and you’re not code savvy, contact your web host, and they can scan for it. Also, the Sucuri article gives a solution to help with the problem for now.

Hope you enjoyed these articles! See you next Wednesday!!!

Great list of WordPress goodies. I really like the CSS plugin. I think that could be quite handy. Though I have been looking for one that lets me store my CSS, like shortcodes. That would be real nice.

Also interesting articles about WordPress theme’s increasing in price. Sure many people are talking about that.

Thanks Nile, I enjoy your WordPress Wednesday posts because I can read good content on topics that interest me without having to go searching for it myself.

I tend to read your posts at the weekend, the time I allow myself to do web wanderings. Reading just one post you mention can lead me on to read a lot more. This week it was Jeff Chandler’s post on theme costs that got me clicking on links to other sites and clicking on links on those sites too …

Interested in the article on WPEngine – since that’s our host – haven’t experienced the problems Matthew is having – but we’re a much smaller site
