#WordPressWednesday 2013 Volume 1

By Nile Flores 10 Comments

I have been hinting several places online that I would finally start up an effort to gather quality WordPress posts from around the WordPress and blogging community that were recently published. Recent articles published qualify at the latest, 1 month.

I would like to try to keep #WordPressWednesday as evergreen as possible, but it will be put in the news area and have a sliding banner on my front page linked to the tag for it.

#WordPressWednesday 2013 Volume 1

Automattic Acquires CodeGarage – WordPress Tavern covers news on Automattic’s recent buy of CodeGarage, which is summarized as a cheaper VaultPress alternative.

WPBeginner covers a handy tutorial on How to Add Google+ Hangouts Event Countdown in WordPress. If you are wanting to set this up on your site, as the article says, make sure you have a Google+ account and a Google API account.

Daniel Pataki writes a tutorial at Smashing Magazine on Inserting Widgets With Shortcodes. Please do note that if you remove the shortcode functionality, that you will need to either manually remove it from the posts (which is tedious in the case you have used the shortcode a lot), move the code to the new theme, or place a code to remove the old shortcode text.

Kimberly Castleberry writes a tutorial on How To Easily Install Your Favorite Plugins From WordPress.org. She discusses an interesting feature added to the WordPress plugin repository called Favorites that you can even use for installing plugins on your own site!

WP Mix shares a code snippet for Google Translate in 2 Steps

Jeff Starr at Digging Into WordPress shares his an excellent toolbox list for WordPress developers in Plugins & Tools for WordPress Developers.

Ryan Imel of WPCandy reveals Where WordPress download numbers really come from.

Craig Grella reviews a plugin at WPMU.org on Project Management in the WordPress Dashboard. I had this on my to-review, but excited enough to share WPMU.org’s article. This plugin covers the areas a developer and their client can use when tracking the progress of a project from the WordPress backend!

Remi posts a tutorial at WPExplorer on how to Customize Your WordPress Dashboard Welcome Message. This can be great for bloggers that want to build a community blog and have a welcome message, for BuddyPress users, or even clients needing a streamlined way to use their website.

Baris Ünver writes at WP Tuts on A Roadmap to Publishing WordPress Themes for ThemeForest. This article covers the thought process that a developer should have in the case they are wanting to sell a WordPress theme on Themeforest.

As you can see, these are some great articles to check out from around the community. I hope to cover others. Feel free to list some WordPress sites that you frequently read.
