WordPress Plugin Review: WordPress Simple Paypal Shopping Cart

By Nile Flores 10 Comments

The WordPress Simple Paypal Shopping Cart is a plugin created by Ruhul Amin for those who do not need a fancy shopping cart, but would like to have something they can customize on their site.

The backend is quite simple and very light. You only have to put in your Paypal email address, specify if you have shipping, a return URL, and products page URL. You can even change the “Add to Cart” button to your own prefered image. Users have the ability to install a widget in their sidebar so the customer knows what is in their shopping cart or they can make a custom checkout page.

The shopping cart plugin operates by placing a shortcode in the content. Simple, right? 🙂 The plugin can even be used in conjunction with the NextGen Gallery plugin and you can have a little more complex store front.

This script does work! One of the problems some users might face is that the cart might not work off the bat. This could be due to several things:

1. Missing the WP footer or header call to the layout (you should be using it every time.)
2. Your webhost does not have an updated PHP Session. Simply email and request an update.

Of course, there are other shopping cart plugins, but what really impressed me enough to whip up a review was the amazing support. The other was that it was not as bulky as some of the others I have tried out. Ruhul and his moderators at his WPShopping Cart forum were quick to answer questions even on their free plugins. They really are familiar with their work and have even developed a premium version of this simple Paypal shopping cart plugin.

Have you tried this plugin? What are your thoughts?

I am still amazed at how few Ecommerce plugins exist for wordpress. It seems like there is quite a demand for them but people aren’t really making them…

I have used this plugin before and it was actually pretty decent….But I think if you really want to create a great ECommerce site you should really go for one of those themes that are made for the specific plugin. It will save you a lot of trouble in the future.

I really do believe that you should have to rely on purchasing a layout. You can get the plugin to function without having to get a custom theme. It really is only one that has been modified with the plugin php codes within the template.

I am also looking for a decent WP shopping cart plugin. I tried Rahul's but it isn't up to my needs. That said, I may have to switch CMS (or maybe themes) if the need becomes to great because there doesn't seem to be anything in the pipeline.

His other shopping cart looks more promising with more features. Of course, it does cost. The price is pretty good too. The WP eCommerce plugin was really bulky when I tried it out, so if you are a person on a shared account with a host that happily puts 1000 clients or more on the same place, you might have problems using that plugin.

However, it seems to be decent except for some delay in their support system. A lot of unanswered tickets and some have taken a long time to be answered, at least from what I noticed.

It might be easy to setup, but I'd be curious to know what the conversion rate is. Easy and profitable often aren't the same thing.

It is really easy to set up, but converting people into buying is not the plugin's job, but the designer/developer, or site owner. You have to strategically place the content where your visitors will notice it and hope they buy.

I think I might try this, the problem I have with WP e-commerce addons is they never seem to be easily skinned.
