People have their own ideas about blogging, and that’s great. Blogging is something both unskilled and skills writers can do. But really, what is a blog and what is blogging? I’ll explain about these in this post.
What is a Blog?
A blog, in simple words, is a place or website that you can share your thoughts or information that people can find and discuss.
The technical definition for a blog, according to Wikipedia is:
A blog (a truncation of the expression weblog) is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries (“posts”).
Blogs have been around for years, and they can vary. People can put together a blog in just about any topic imaginable. They can be in chronological order, and reverse chronological order (newest posts are first.) Blogs are no longer websites with one specific blogger, but can sometimes have several, or even hundreds.
A blog can be cutesy or funny, or informational and serious. You can share images, videos, and audio files on your blog posts. You can even sell things! There’s really no limit to what a blog can be used as.
What is Blogging?
Blogging, or writing, is what you do on a blog. It’s a part of content creation. You can utilize blogging to get a message across, or get people to do something, like buy your stuff, click on your ads, comment on your posts, share your articles, or subscribe to your website’s newsletter.
Blogging is meant to be a way for you to have a voice on the Internet, where you may not have it outside of online. It’s not meant to be something you have to be perfect at.
Becoming better at blogging, just like writing, takes time and practice. Even the most experience blogger is not always perfect. The great thing is that most blogging platforms or content management systems that exist, allow you to go back and edit your articles.
What is a blog platform or a content management system?
A blog platform or a content management system (also known as a CMS), is where you can blog. In the basic sense, they are software designed to document and save the blog posts you write, help you organize your content, and even allow you to collect comments from your blog readers.
Some blog platforms and CMS offer add-ons that extend the functionality of the website beyond blogging, like being able to share posts, having a contact form, having a photo gallery, or even selling things through a shopping cart. For example, this website uses a CMS called WordPress, and has a gallery for my portfolio, sometimes offers polls for people to vote on certain topics, sells services, has a contact form, and has many other things aside from the blog.
These are just a few of the basics on what a blog is, as well as what is blogging.

A blog is merely like a tool that lets you do anything from change the world to share your list of own thoughts to mass.
