One of the things I hear a lot from people when they tell me they hate a place they had been a member of online and got their account suspended is that they believe they did not do anything wrong.
The problem is after asking if they violated the site’s Terms of Service, they said no. This is a big thing a lot of people are not getting. While there are a lot of free services out there, they often have rules. Over the past few years alone, Twitter has put a lot of effort in putting their rules together, along with an extensive FAQ to help users understand how to use their site properly.
While to some it might be an “in your face” response, read the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy or anything you plan to use online. You never know if you might violate the rules and a lot of companies that have been around, do not restore accounts based on “Oh, I did not know that.” Ignorance is not an excuse, especially when a lot of places have a checkbox field asking registering users if they agree to the site’s terms.
This also extends to guest blogging, and commenting at blogs. It is important to know before you use a website. In the late 1990s, this was not much of a problem, but that is also because there was not as many people or websites on the Internet.
It might be boring, but it will save you the headache later of being suspended from any website.
Do you read the Terms of Service for most of the sites you sign up for?

You may need to go back and read. There are things you might not know you are doing wrong. It can also become a legal issue if the violation is severe enough (ex: defamation of character.)

Nile – It is definitely important to read the terms of service before you use any website. But I think the problem is most people look at all terms of services as the same.
Most people normally assume that they all go over pretty much the same rules and regulations so they don't bother reading them thoroughly.
I know for me I don't read every site's terms of service. Instead, I browse or skim through it quickly but I know I should read them more thoroughly.

Makes a lot of sense. I agree that ignorance is no excuse but I admit that I sometimes get oblivious to reading some terms and conditions. Probably, when I get banned or punished from a particular site, I can't blame anybody but me. Thanks for sharing such an informative post.

I admit, most of the time I really don't read Term of Service. Sometimes I only read the upper portion of the terms but not taking it seriously. But now that I make something that uses Terms of service. I go hard on it, read it carefully and understand it one by one.

I always read the Terms of Services of a certain site before registering. For me, It's a waste of time to register and get suspended afterwards because of the unawareness of the site's policy. I'd rather take time reading the TOS first so that I would know if i'll agree or not. Thanks for the post!

Most savvy users often ignored terms and conditions of a certain website. That's why they violated some of the policies unconsciously. May we all act positive on this issue. If you don't want to be banned, READ first and understand its conditions before you agree. ๐
