Remember To Create Presence For Your Business BOTH Online AND Locally!

By Nile Flores 25 Comments

Face it, people are shopping online, looking for directions to places, and much more. They may even be looking for your business, even if you are not specifically an online business. You NEED to remember To create presence for your business BOTH online AND locally!

The problem is… you need to be. If you want to be found or want to drive interest to your business, you need to have a presence online and not just locally. In fact, if you are a small business that does not operate online, and you are struggling to attract customers, one of the reasons might be that no one can find you.

There are no excuses to not be listed online. There are so many free, as well as affordable ways to be listed. There are even affordable ways to have a website for your business. The thought that “If you build it, he will come” (a quote from the movie Field of Dreams) will not just cut it. You could have some fancy sign, some lights, and maybe a decent location, but it will only go so far.

The same can be said of online business owners. You should be promoting your business locally. You should be getting involved with your area Rotary Clubs and local Chamber of Commerce groups. You might even want to try taking out newspaper ads or Shoppers Weekly listings.

Take advantage of all opportunities to spread to your community and the world about your business.

Are you taking advantage of creating a presence for your business online and locally?

As an internet marketer, I’d say the question of whether to have an offline business presence really depends on what you’re selling. For those of us that are selling primarily digital products on our websites or niche blogs, do you think it is that important to have an offline presence? When you think about it, these product *mus* be bought online, so what tangible benefit is there into investing times and resources offline?

Jacob- It does not matter what you are selling. You DO need a presence offline as well. A business owner is one that is not just online. Do you go to conferences and tell people, I am online, and don’t hand them a business card? No… you don’t… you give them a business card. That is a medium that is offline.

Nowadays having both physical and online presence is very much a necessity. Especially now that most of buyers tends to search for specific product first online after such is the location of the physical store where to buy the product.

Confession time – I have a real mental block against promoting myself or my business locally. I live on a small island and pretty much everything here revolves around 1) tourism, 2) agriculture and 3) military. The small businesses here support the people who work in those industries. I write digital books, but even if I published them in traditional format – there’s no bookstores here to approach for things like book signings, etc. It’s a real challenge, but you’ve inspired me to at least take another look.

It always amazes me how many local businesses have no website. There are so many options, many inexpensive, to establish an online presence. If you have a local business, and you’re not online, you’re just shooting yourself in the foot.

A great post. A wonderful reminder for those who concentrate their efforts on only 1 dimension and cut their chances for getting new customers.

Having a business would mean that not only should you be targeting your local market but you also have to target potential partners and customers who may be interested on your services. Thus giving your business a better mileage to both online and offline.

Social media presence can help in promoting your business and your services to a wider market and can be used as reference to potential partners while your local activity and visibility helps your product be noticed by your potential clients

We used to do a lot of offline marketing but it’s sort of taken a back seat recently so hopefully can get back into it.
