Podcast Presentation: Typography for WordPress

By Nile Flores 27 Comments

I do not normally do a lot of presentations on design concepts, but I am always game to try something different. For WordCamp Kansas City 2012, I presented Typography for WordPress.

The presentation covers a little about typography, some examples great use of it, a few tips, and then how to implement typefaces into a WordPress site using any of 4 methods.

Please feel free to leave a comment and also please follow me, Nile Flores on Slideshare.

By the way, my trip to WordCamp Kansas City 2012 was made possible by CommentLuv. If you blog, CommentLuv is a great plugin that allows you to reward your readers that leave comments. CommentLuv even has a premium version that combines several popular plugins include KeywordLuv and even an anti-spam plugin too!

Please enjoy the powerpoint and the podcast.

Nile, thanks for teaching me another strategy. It’s on the list! I’m in the middle of things right now, but put this on my Evernote to go back to so I can apply this technique.

Thanks for always teaching me something new.

Try The WP Typography. This plugin adds a number of typography features to your blog. It includes hyphenation, spacing control, forced internal wrapping of long URLs, intelligent character placement, smart handling of quotes and other characters, and CSS hooks for styling ampersands, acronyms, and other special characters.

    Hello Nile,

I really enjoyed the pod cast and having the slides was perfect, thanks for the foresight! I Iearned heaps, to be honest I hadn’t considered the commercial usage of fonts thought no clue why! Stands to reason, thanks for making me think!

I’ll be checking out those sites fonts that you’ve mentioned to. and I do like the way you turned the word ‘the’ sideways on the logo ‘The Write Design Company’ neat 🙂

Yes – Topography plays a big part in Website development and design. Especially if the user’s browser doesn’t support the type of topography that you are using. One needs to think about all the aspects – technical and non-technical. From a browser support view and also from a user experience point of view.

Typography is one of the most visible aspects that we can customize, as to fit to our needs and tastes. Although it might seem hard at first to change this aspect, the impact is quite high.

Fantastic presentation – and great intro to the audio!

I never considered your mentioning in the powerpoint that not all fonts are allowed to be used for web fonts or commercial use – makes sense I suppose, it’s art after all!

Nice presentation. It is indeed important to know that topography plays a major part in the development of the website. Even especially on the design and how the information is presented in the website.

Yes, you can. You can use the Bluberry Podcast plugin to do that, or if you prefer to podcast solely from YouTube, then you can embed your podcast videos to a blog post… or you can do both.
