This post is about blogging, and not being obsessed about it. It’s important to create content, but I keep being asked about how frequently you should be posting. A few weeks back, during my talk in Oklahoma City, I stressed how important it was to not get too obsessed about blogging.
This year, I’ve noticed a lot of talks starting to cover the topic of taking care of yourself as a blogger, as a freelancer, and even as a stay at home parent. It’s not a glamorous job when you start, and it takes a while to get some recognization by peers, for your efforts.
With time, and lack of acknowledgement, each post, you start to question whether it’s been worth pursuing. You get wrapped up in pumping out each blog post, and slowly, the flavor in each word and sentence go bland.
You literally lose out on the joy of blogging, and your readers do too. You also end up spending more time blogging, than doing things that can enhance your content, like: reading, watching a movie, or spending time with loved ones.
Here’s some tips to recovering your blogg mojo.
Tips To Get Your Blog Mojo Back
1 Set a time for blogging, and stick to it.
Even if you are a full time blogger, there should be a time set for blogging. Make that time to write a post or two, but don’t go out of that time.
2 Carry a notepad or use an app for your phone to take a couple ideas for blogging, while on the go.
I like to carry a small notepad to jot down ideas when I’m out and about, especially if an idea strikes me. I don’t like to wait at my desk for the ideas to happen, so sometimes having a notepad helps. When I don’t bring a notepad, I use an app on my phone to record my voice and have it translate to text for notes.
3 Do something fun for yourself at least once a week.
Don’t coop yourself up in your home all the time. For some, that can be easy to do. Instead, you can take a walk, go to the library, walk around in a shopping center, go to the movie, or go on a drive around the area. There’s a lot of things you can do besides those ideas, but if it’s about money, those are inexpensive or things you can do for free.
4 Schedule time to read other sites, and expand your knowledge.
You need to make connections with other bloggers. The best way to do it, is to visit and comment on other blogs and interact them them on their social channels. You never know when you could build a great relationship with another blogger that could lead to collaborations or opportunities.
5 Turn to involving other bloggers, like doing roundups or interviews to switch up your normal blog routine.
Putting a roundup together gets others to write a little content. You just have to string the responses together, and present it to your readers. This also builds a relationship with other bloggers, and you can even learn a few new things from them.
6 Get involved in local meetups or tweet chats, or online groups.
Getting involved in your niche, whether at a local meetup group, a tweet chat, or some online group, also helps build relationships with other bloggers. You may find that you’ll learn new things, or the other people who attend, will learn something from you.
7 Schedule time to promote older articles that are still evergreen content.
Your old articles need attention too. You can lay off chugging out those new articles, and focus on promoting articles that are still evergreen, or still have content that has relevant news today. A lot of bloggers forget about their content that is still great for today’s crowd, and that should be promoted.
8 Try other types of mediums like images, video, or audio to use for a post, in order to switch up your normal blog routine.
This will vary your content, and allow you to repurpose some content via video, images, or audio, that your visitors may connect better than normal text format. It also breaks up the time spent writing, so you’re not always doing one thing.
It’s important to put out content that is unique and of great quality, but not at the sacrifice of everything else. I think a lot of people forget to stress the fact that taking care of yourself is important too. So, I’m going to repeat – Take care of yourself!

Hey Nile,
We know very well every great writer reads. Not just in our specialty but broadly. This gives us the opportunity to see what resonates with other readers and may spark new article ideas. In sedentary jobs exercise is really very beneficial to refresh our mind and gain additional stamina to perform more and more work. Continuous work in bounded four walls makes us bored and frustrate and it proven by many research and studies it decreases work quality.
So in proper interval of time we must go outside for outing it makes us full energetic and refreshment, when we get returned back in our job. These keys are incredible in nature and i really agree with your thought. Eventually, thanks for your creative thought.
With best wishes,
Amar kumar

That’s exactly it, Nile. It’s way too easy to just get caught up in other things and let slide. I got in the habit of trying to make at least a couple of posts per week on my main site and then, all of a sudden, I’m 3 weeks into October and realise I haven’t even managed a single one this month.
I’m about to rectify that, but it just goes to show how easy it is to get off track and watch the time slip by.
Kind regards,
Russ

It is really easy. My stepmom passed, but I still found time to blog. I had to because I am still here, and life goes on, but if I made her as an excuse, as I did with visiting her and helping to take care of her, I would continue the habit.
It’s hard to keep a habit, even at once a week. I laughed as I typed the previous sentence, but it’s true!
