How to Use LinkedIn To Bring In Traffic To Your Site

By Nile Flores 58 Comments

LinkedIn is a great tool in itself that has become a way for professionals to connect. You can use it to reel in traffic.

In a way, LinkedIn has become a social network for mature users, rather than convoluted with game apps and other things like Facebook and MySpace. By the way, I do love Facebook, but sometimes there are things I really did not want to see and remind me of my old MySpace days.

You do not have to be “friends” to connect. Some people take the word “friend” to heart. LinkedIn is where you can try to establish any type of connection… though I am sure for a lot of you, a professional connection is ideal.

Here are just a few methods I use in bringing traffic to any of my websites from LinkedIn:

  1. Install the WordPress applications for LinkedIn on my profile. When people visit, they will see what you write about. If you are someone who blogs about your career field, this could be an added bonus especially when finding a job.
  2. Join groups and participate. There are a load of people who are looking to connect with other professionals in their niche. With the hundreds of groups available, you cannot go wrong.
  3. Share your articles on your LinkedIn social stream. You can connect your LinkedIn account to other social networks or manually enter your update.
  4. Submit your articles to group news. This is a nice addition, especially if the group has a lot of members. It might be a bit tedious, but you could bring in traffic and even feedback that you would not have found anywhere else… and you know what… it would be with people who are actually interested in what you have to say. 🙂

If you used LinkedIn, what other methods do you use to promote your site in order to bring in traffic?

    Hi Nile,
Linkedin is the number one refferal source of traffic to my blog only behind Google and direct traffic, for me Linkedin is much better than facebook and twitter that most people use just to kill their time, on the other hand Linkedin is more for professionals so it’s a much better social network for professionals…

Very interesting method… I rely on social networks to bring traffic to my blogs, but I haven’t used Linked in… From your article it seems that it is quite easy, from a technical point of view, the only difficulty is to find people with similar interest…

I think Linkedin is great for businesses, like you said it is a more mature social network compared to Facebook and MySpace. I honestly think that more businesses should join Linkedin. Your content becomes purely based on business and not what you did on the weekend. A great summed up post, Thank you

Linkedin is a perfect toll for making professional contacts. In Linkedin you can also find top level executives and get connected to him. Website promotion on linkedin becomes more effective as there are such professionals surfing it.

    Hi Nile,

LinkedIn is a great professional resource social media platform. I like it because I can connect with people on my niche. I agree with what you said about Facebook. I love it, but there are some features I can truly pass up.

I’ve done all four of your suggestions on LinkedIn, however I always feel I’m not participating enough and of course I can blame it on time restraints. It is something I need to apply more focus and take action. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Hi Nile,
I lie Linked in a much more than FB but if I see my google analytics I see that FB brings in more traffic for the moment.
I like the ” zen” clean professional atmosphere of LI, easy to connect with people and less interference.
I have a resistance when I am tempted to share my posts to avoid to sound ” salesly”.
Thanks for this reminder I need to go on the groups more often and share more quality info on LI too!

    Hi Nile,

Another interesting and potentially lucrative feature of LinkedIn is it’s discussion opt-in feature. This is something I’ve experienced first hand; if you start and/or follow a discussion (or follow all discussions in a Group), LinkedIn will notify you via e-mail every single time there is an update or new comment made to that post. Talk about an amazing way of keeping your blog or website front and center in the minds of those interested in your area of expertise!
