How To Get Your Website Listed in Search Engines

By Nile Flores 8 Comments

how to get your website listed in search enginesIn order to get your website listed in search engines, you need to remember that Google follows the links first. If you don’t have any other website linking to you, then you need to submit your website to the search engines.

How To Get Your Website Listed in Search Engines?

Submitting your website is a very basic method that you should be doing when you first start out with your website. It helps get some attention to your website without having to wait for search engines like Google or Bing to finally find you.

For Google, you’ll want to submit your website to Google Search Console, and for Bing, you’ll want to submit to Bing Webmaster Tools. Once you’ve submitted your website, you’ll want to go a little further and submit your sitemap.

A sitemap, in the most simple sense, is a list of all of pages on your website that are public and can be crawled by search engines. Submitting your website’s sitemap lets search engines like Google and Bing crawl all of the pages on your website.

If you forget to submit your sitemap, then you need to make sure your website has a clear navigation structure, and that you are linking content so search engines can effectively crawl your website. Again, you must remember that Google follows the links, so if you have pages that aren’t linked in your navigation or anywhere else on your website, or linked from outside websites, then the crawlers might miss them. That is why it’s is better to submit a sitemap.

For website owners that have a content management system like WordPress, you can install a plugin like Yoast SEO, which will generate a sitemap that you can submit to the search engines. Otherwise, if you have a static website or custom website setup that cannot generate a sitemap, you may need to manually create one. If you’re not really code savvy, tools like the XML Sitemap Generator tool may help.

When your website is fairly new, you may also want to take up other ways to getting noticed by the search engines. Some of these also help bring attention and traffic to your website.

  • Get your content syndicated or cross-posted by other resources, liked LinkedIn Pulse, HuffingtonPost, and more.
  • Guest blog, and link to your content.
  • Share your articles, or get your visitors to share your articles on social network sites.
  • Submit your website to some web directories.
  • If your website is a business, submit your website to business listings and local business listing sites.

Did you remember to submit your website and sitemap to the search engines?

    Hey
Nice tips and suggestions i agree with it, but don’t you think listing to web directories is a black hat technique ?

Web directories can still be useful, and aren’t a black hat technique. DMOZ is still a web directory and well respected, as an example. Yelp, Angieslists, and many others are web directories as well. It depends on the directories, and if they are relevant to what your website is. If you’re blogging about raising children and list yourself in a car blog directory, then that might be a problem.

Thank you for such a great informative Post.
Manually submitting your website in Google search console is the best way to index your site. I personally do not trust any Plugin at all.
