Graphic: Typography Is An Art

By Nile Flores 32 Comments

For some, typorgraphy is just a bunch of words with letters shaped in some sort of manner. However, with some color and strategy in placing words, typography can become an art in itself.

It is no rumor that many people find that they remember things much better from aesthetically pleasing images. There are thousands of different fonts available that can be used for just about anything. It can literally set the tone of a graphic, OR add a little flavor to a site to enhance the blog author’s voice.

Art does not have an exact definition except that is an expression of one’s thoughts, feelings, and more. Typography is a creation that some fonts may be clean and professional, some perhaps even ghastly, and others… fun and lighthearted.

I have put together a graphic to illustrate my point that typography is an art.

Thanks for this idea, Nile. I tend to just stick with the same font, or add a little variation now and then for emphasis, but I see now that I can be far more creative ๐Ÿ™‚

    Nile,
You have a point here and I totally agree. An attractive font can mean the difference between someone actually reading your content. Color is always more attractive. The normal 10-12 point font in black is very boring. I will have to get more creative when the options to vary the font is available.
Thank you Nile for helping us to expand our thinking and creativity.

Having worked in fashion since years I am very attracted to the artistic side of a page, a blog or a site in general.
I like the example you are sharing, art work makes our blog look more original attractive and with personality.

Typography certainly can be an art, I have seen some great sites made even better by excellent typography and I have seen some great sites rendered almost unreadable by typography.

I like to read a well designed and well laid out site, and the ease of readability goes long way toward my opinion of the content. Unfair, perhaps, but true nonetheless.

I have seen designers who claim to know a lot on design, but doesn’t know anything about Typography.
I think it’s a very important aspect in design and changes feel and the look of the website as whole.

I am agree, but remmember, do not abuse of font variety, use only 3 at most on a design, if you use more then you will have a worst appeariance

I believe typography is an art form. Some people have a better eye for it than others and it can make a world of difference. If done properly it can be a big benefit to almost any webpage.

Typography is a beautiful art. I was taught this when taking a graphic design diploma. We were made to print typefaces using many different methods such as vinyl cutting and block printing. I quickly learned that typography could be as powerful as an image when it comes to emotional responses.
Thank you for this post Nile.

Very Nice Article Nile. I’ve been doing a lot of research lately on Typography after seeing how important it is to the actual aesthetics of a website. I’m also finding that using typography to enhance a site’s appearance takes up much less space than uploading tons of images ๐Ÿ™‚ Very nice site by the way!
