Graphic: Stop Waiting, Start Blogging

By Nile Flores 28 Comments

As web and graphic designer, I encounter clients that have different levels of experience in both just owning a website and maintaining a site. That also includes whether they have blogged before or not.

Regardless if you are new to using WordPress or not, and you wish to have a blog for your site, you should start blogging right away. If you are waiting for a new design for your site for the first time or perhaps even the fifth time, remember that your content in the end is what will interest your visitors.

I get many clients that are new to being a website owner or even blogger that keep saying to me that they are going to wait until their new design is up. Some designers might take quite a bit of time to get the right look designed for a site. It would be better to establish content and let the design trickle in as a way to complete the branding process. Why? – Well, this will allow your visitors to focus on what you have to say first.

Way back in the day of pioneering American business entrepreneurs, they had a product, a slogan and something to say about their product, but little else to promote. However, they promoted by word of mouth and if they had money to spare, they had simple flyers that they posted or handed out.

Design is only a secondary way to solidify your brand. It is important, but get your product and message out to the masses first without waiting for perfection to happen.

    Absolutely true!

Sometime we just keep waiting and waiting not only for design to be finished but also for blogging mood. Stop waiting and start blogging!

This statement is so true. Waiting make no profit and the look of your site won’t be the judging criteria for your success. With great content, even the simplest blog will be successful.

Yes! Content is more important. But still, if the site looks boring and dull, who would want to read the content, right?

    Nile,

You are 100% correct! I tell my clients the exact thing. In fact, I have a strategy session with a client on Friday who told me yesterday that he needed everything in place, so he makes sure everything is perfect before he starts blogging.

I told him to forget that. No one will probably go to his blog for the first week or two. Finish what you need to finish in that time frame and let’s have the marketing at full speed by then.

I really love reading and following your post as I find them extremely informative and interesting. This post is equally informative as well as interesting. I really agree with you that people do not visit blogs for design but for the content. Content plays a great role in attracting visitors to any website or blog and starting a blog with some interesting topic can be a great endeavor.

I think this is a huge problem in more ways then one and I might be a bit guilty myself. Guess I’ll have to open that membership site I’ve been building despite waiting on some graphics. Thanks for the heads up 🙂 and I preach the same thing on my blog. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect… Just take some action and make things happen.

    Cheers,

I guess that is true. For most web designers they think that the design of a site is the most important thing to consider in order to get exposure. In reality, what makes a site beautiful is its content so if you provide quality you can get tons of visitors in the long run just make sure you offer interesting write ups or else do not expect visitors to return back to you.

That’s right Nile , we all know that if we visit any blog our main purpose is the piece of content for which we are looking for! I don’t want to get impressed and overwhelmed by the dazzling beautiful design of the blogs! Though the design matters for having a soothing effect to our eyes and mind but at the end it’s the content which matters a lot!

Absolutely true. Having a cool design can be great for your blog but the content is by far the more important.

    Also, thanks for the advice.

Wonderful advice. Content before beauty is a philosophy I live by. While yes, aesthetic beauty of a website can help tremendously, if your content is not up to par then readers will not stay.

Well it really takes time for a designer to construct a site so it would be better to start blogging early to have a jumpstart.

    Hi Nile,

Sanjib here. The title of this article is self explanatory.

As they say, “Practice makes man perfect”, instead of waiting for someone to teach you what is blogging, you can start doing it all by yourself. Confusion is the first step to learning. As you keep doing it, you will slowly reach the mark of perfection. This is my opinion and many will surely agree with me.

    Thanks,

    Sanjib

Just how important is blogging nowadays? I’d love to spend an hour a day writing my thoughts but thats an hour I’m not doing something else. Everyone tells me I should use twitter, facebook, linkedin, blog etc.. when do I get time to do some work? 🙂

I do not agree with that. WordPress is a lot easier and the fact that you do not have to rely on Google to host your blog is a plus.

Amazing guidance. Material before elegance is a viewpoint I remain by. While yes, visual appeal of a website can help extremely, if your articles is not up to par then visitors will not remain.

    Great advice Nile!

it seems every body at one time or another, would rather wait
than do the most important thing for their blog, which is to keep
producing fresh and extremely helpful content for their target audience!

Of course you want the visual part of your blog to be appealing, but what good
is a great looking theme, with little or no content!

Or worst yet, content that hasn’t been updated in literally months!
