Blogging seems to be something people think might be cool, but really… blogging is NOT a glamorous job. To become successful, it takes a lot of work.
Just some of the work involves:
- Many hours of writing posts.
- Many hours of reading and researching.
- Many hours to engage with other bloggers, as well as your readers, followers, and maybe even clientele.
- Many hours contacting potential sponsors or advertisers in order to bring in revenue.
I put together a graphic on this because I want people to know that blogging is not a get rich quick and cut corners kind of job. Blogging takes dedication and passion to stay up in the wee hours of the morning to pump out that next post.
Abhay says
I totally agree with you. Blogging, requires dedication.
Muhammad Talha says
Yeah you are right.Blogging is not an easy task.It is what you are giving right, accurate and original content to you reader and if we done that then success is all yours.
Ranjan says
Hi Nile
Okey…it seem that lots of exclamation mark on your post..!!!!
Many hours of writing posts !
There are mainly two ways from which you can share your thought and experience with others, i.e. verbal and second one is via text. Thats the reason why we are spending hours while writing for others.
Many hours of reading and researching !
Why not..? If i found thousands of information and valuable experience of others on my PC which may improve my website utility. Actually it is the chipest way to know. About researching..! its human nature.
Many hours to engage with other bloggers, as well as your readers, followers, and maybe even clientele !
If you did above two, you need not to taking care about your followers and readers because your work keep engage them automatically.
Many hours contacting potential sponsors or advertisers in order to bring in revenue !
Why are we not think like that, potential sponsors or whatever it is contact us and we have options to choose among them and what about those bloggers who make great revenue.
Thanks for sharing…Keep BLOGGING

It depends on the kind of blogger and how much you enjoy it. If you’re a photoblogger that could be fun, but that isn’t to say there isn’t work in it!
Ashish Joshi says
Yes i agree with you blogging is not a glamorous job, a blogger should work hard and invest some money at the primary stage. And the blogger has to promote it and also invest time on researching a lot
Andrei says
Yes, truly it is not easy to work in web, but for me all that matters is to do what you like to do. I love to work in web and therefore are willing to lose hours lined up in front of the laptop.
Sheila says
Yes, dedication is a watch word when blogging, or doing any content creation on the web. It takes a lot of patience to ‘make it’.
Mercy Odion says
Blogging to me on my first experience was rather tedious due to it lengthy work but not anymore because i transformed it into passion. The reason for this was discovering my niche who always leave constructive comments and this inspired me. My advice is concentrate on a particular area and do your research.
Steven Hughes says
Nile,
The hours of work never seem to end. Commenting on a blog at 10:18PM on Thanksgiving. Get a life me. Well we do it because we’re passion about it and want to be here. Reading and Research. It never ends.

Steve

Thanks for sharing this great article. I agree with all your 4 points which you have mentioned in your post.

Yup, no doubt about it, there’s a lot more work to blogging than most people realise. But, personally, I also get a lot out of it from everything I’ve learned, the people I’ve met, and how much I’ve grown over the couple of years since I started.
Kevin Petersen says
Hi, I am not a blogger yet. Just checking it out. I seem to be able to pass the time on the internet without a problem . . . maybe blogging is something I could do! I like research and can write not too bad. Think I’ll look into this more.
Steve Borgman says
Certainly, if someone is into blogging for the money only, and right away, s/he will quickly lose heart. I have grown to love blogging because a) it helps me learn and crystallize my learning b) it connects me with great people in my niche/s who I would not otherwise meed c) it opens up opportunities in the marketplace, and d) every blog post I write becomes a source of evergreen passive income in the long run, if I write epic content 🙂
Clint Butler says
I think one of the greatest misnomers about blogging is the “if you build it, they will come” mentality that a lot of newbies have. I’ll admit it, I even thought that when I first got started. Heck with everyone on the net how could it be that hard right? Wrong!! There are so many different nuances and expectations that you need to have a grasp on in order to be successful. Its actually a lot of work. Not only to get a good base audience, but to keep them as well.
Raena Lynn says
Hi Nile,
Blogging, if done correctly, take a lot of time and effort. I love having my own central hub to make connections, share content, and engage with other bloggers. Everything in your infographic is true!
There are a lot of factors involved with blogging and I don’t think many people who create their first blog really understand the depth and dedication needed to be successful. However, if they are determined and spend their time doing what must me done such as research, writing, and engaging, it can be a very rewarding and profitable career. The biggest challenge is organic traffic, but consistent syndication and tribe membership helps a lot!

For sure, no otehr way to put it, a lot more work going on into blogging than most people truly can understand unless they themselves get deeply involveda nd want to do a great job or in yoru case, earn a living.
Personally, I get a lot out of writing, perhapos is because I love it, so I do not take it as hard work, but I also must say that I recognize otehrs who work a lot hardr than me and take it more seriously than me, but in some ways I se them unhappy.. I just pray that thei see the light, and cpome out winners in their choisen field.
Great short but to the point blog that served me greatly.

Thanks!

It’s a fine line between encouraging someone who *should* be blogging, and cautioning those who maybe shouldn’t be blogging but are gung ho to get started because they think it will be a breeze.
Yes, blogging is hard work. I am a network marketer, not an internet marketer, yet I still need certain things in place, along with consistency in writing — which is a huge challenge these days.

Hi Nile, as has been said before there is a lot of build it and they will come mentality. And of course some people are oblivious to the fact that it takes years of heard work to become an “overnight success”

Hi Nile,
yes, it does take a lot of time to do blogging.
Is it worth it? Absolutely!
Even if it doesn’t make you (much) money it still is worth it.
I am learning so much from researching and reading other people’s blog. Gaining experience in doing it learning better and easier ways is challenging and fun.
It is all about our perspective.
Cheers,
Yorinda

You said it Nile!
Blogging is anything but glamorous! There are so many parts to it. Researching, writing from what you have just learned, or just plain writing from your heart.
It has to have a point, and a also, most importantly, a message to those who are your readers. Our blogs are our home base and needs to be in order and consistent.

I agree with you to a point. It’s hard work but isn’t everything in life? It always looks greener on the other side, but I promise you it isn’t. You have the freedom that many in a day job lack and to be honest with your, your site’s successful.
I have the freedom of running two businesses and yes, both require a lot of time and hard work for which I see little overall improvement in either business. Blogging is a long hard slog, not an overnight success. Like any other business, it takes time to build and needs continual attention.
I also think that people jump in without researching what they intend to blog about simply because, as you put it, they think it’s going to be an overnight success. I’ve been developing and running the same sites for years (one is in it’s second decade) and they’ve taken time and determination. However, I’ve been running businesses for a decade and the one thing I’ve learnt is that you need to pace yourself and stay both interested and focussed. If you lack either, you should look for something else to do.

As ant newbie, I thought that I would become a successful blogger right away. Over the years, I have understood that only diligent people really get to the top, as at the end of the day, it’s all about who works better and harder.

I was feeling a little…. uninspired today and not in the mood to write. I saw this blog post…. lol – and thought…. INDEED, not glamorous.
I am glad I am not alone in this “word warrior” gig and the others sometimes feel…. that it’s tough. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies – but it has it’s perks. Just have to keep thinking about those perks 🙂

Hey Nile,
I don’t consider myself a blogger, but more like a “bungle” in this field.
However, I never write because I have to but I do so because I choose to.
To me success is a journey and not a destination. It’s about enjoying the ride.
I don’t go to surf to get it done, but for the enjoyment of it.
Perhaps I have it all backwards?! 🙂
thanks for the post!

Hey Nile,
You should put code under your infographic so other bloggers can use it on your website. With a link linking back to your site. I have been doing this a lot and found out it works pretty good. Also, submit to myblogguest and put in the bio where they can go to pull the graphic.
Yes, true I have a daily routine as a blog/seo/affiliate marketer 🙂 It’s a job just like anything else.

Yes, I have to agree. I have experienced a lot of difficulties as a blogger. It would take years to be an experienced blogger and you’d need to gather a whole olot of experience.
Julia Reed says
I could not agree with you more. Blogging is not a hobby and it is not a weekend pastime. It is just like any other job – sometimes as demanding and frustrating as a position of an office clerk)

Hi Nile. Great graphic. I think it gets your point across very well. I love blogging, but you are right. As soon as I don’t think about it, a week has gone by without a post. I’m trying to post three times a week, but some days are easier than others!
Thanks for the reminder.

Hey Nile,
This graphic is awesome and its 100% true. I think a lot of people see blogging as this thing they can just start up over night and will all of a sudden start bringing them hoards of traffic but the fact is there are so many things involved to being successful.
My biggest struggle right now (new blogger) is staying consistent and on top of the blog posts… I have a lot to write about but between my full time job and my part-time venture its so hard to find time to write!
Hadley says
What I like about working on the web is things are constantly changing so it always keeps my job fresh.

Yes I agree with you that blogging needs dedication to this kind of thing – whatever you call it (a hobby or a job). It takes time for me (usually spending 3-4 hours) before I made a fantastic blog. I don’t make a short blog post.. usually it contains 400-500 words per blog post.. But I find blogging as part of my life as I find a lot of friends here and I learn so many things as well.

why so serious??? blogging is a funny job when you write article, read article, and commenting another blog. I made a blog just to share with others, so i never mind about traffic etc.

I would have to agree with you 100% – blogging is too time consuming. I had two blogs on autos and web design, yes, both hobbies, but do to my time constraints, I gave up blogging. You really have to dedicate not only your time, but it has to be a passion – and writing articles, blogging about this and that, well not my cup of tea.
So, I fully understand where you are coming from. Keep up the good articles – something I would rather do, read rather than write!

And within three short months or sooner they abandon ship and move on to the next supposedly
easy “push button” system approach to creating online success!
Thanks for shedding some much needed light on a little lost art called the “truth!”
