Kim Kardashian was one of the many keynotes at #BlogHer16. As I sat there listening to her talk, I thought of how her words could teach bloggers. She’s young, she’s popular enough to be loved and hated, and she knows how to play the media to her favor. So, what can Kim Kardashian teach bloggers?
#BlogHer16: What Can Kim Kardashian Teach Bloggers?
It’s clearly obvious, that bloggers in fashion, media, and celebrity gossip fit with what she has to say. She’s a celebrity that dabbles in polarization, and also in sex sells. Let’s face it, Kim is a very beautiful woman. People get jealous of that. On top of that, she and her family are constantly in the media. She’s tied to Kanye West, a rapper who has been called a “jackass” by President Barack Obama. She is unashamed of anything, because she is living how she wants to live.
Society today is different from society 20 and 50 years ago. We still have a lot of people who aren’t keen on this concept of “millenial generation behavior.”
However, Kim had stood strong in her own skin, even if she is young and still is finding a true focus in her life.
She often sees comments, and is confronted by people who have clearly not liked her way of living after seeing her on her family’s reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
“When someone underestimated me, I like to get to talk with them to find out what they do, and understand why they feel that way, and prove them wrong,” she said during her keynote.
She often hears about people saying that she reveals too much, but she says that she limits media exposure to her children and husband while on the reality show. She doesn’t talk or post much about them.
“If you don’t post it, it doesn’t exist,” Kim Kardashian explains, in regards to protecting her children.
She touches on the facts that you have to be comfortable with who you are, which is something that bloggers have to be when they publish each article. She also said that you should be genuine in connecting with fans, followers, and readers. Some people may not accept you, or agree, or like you, but you have to fall back on the fact whether you can accept that or not.
So, in summary, as a blogger, even if your niche doesn’t fall within fashion, media, and celebrity gossip, you’ve got to have a thick skin.
