I’m really excited and honored to be selected to be a presenter at BlogHer16. This year it’s in Los Angeles, from August 4th, to August 6th, 2016. BlogHer has been around for several years, and has grown a lot. A few years ago, actually in 2011, some of my friends asked me if I was going to BlogHer, and I didn’t even know what the event was.
Then I did what anyone in the technology field would do, I googled it. The idea of a conference built around a large community of women was amazing. These are people that had some similar background with me: bloggers, or stay at home mom, or women in technology, or WordPress users. Sure, there are celebrities that are there, like this year will have people like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mayim Bialik, and Cheryl Crow.
However, the biggest thing is getting to meet other bloggers. There are so many bloggers out there, and while I get to meet plenty throughout the year at all the WordCamps I’ve been to, this is totally different. I get to meet people who have known the same struggles.
So anyhow, I really wanted to go back then, but I couldn’t. I was struggling then, and the conference isn’t cheap by any means. I swore to myself that some day, I’d get to go.
I just didn’t think it would happen.
I will be teaching 2 WordPress labs:
- The General WordPress Basics lab is on Friday, August 5th at 10:15AM to 11:15AM
- The WordPress Security lab is on Saturday, August 6th at 10:30AM to 12PM.
If you miss out, don’t worry! I’ll have free downloadable WordPress resources for each, which will be announced on a post during the event, and on all social media channels, including the Official BlogHer16 attendee group on Facebook (at least those who were invited or found the group.)
So, what can you expect from me during BlogHer16, aside from the 2 talks I’m doing.
- I’ll be tweeting up a storm.
- I’ll be sharing pictures on Facebook and Twitter.
- Hopefully I get to meet Sarah Michelle Gellar (there’s a lot of people going to be there… over 3,000.)
- Thanking my sponsors for helping my dream come true about going to BlogHer16
- Issuing some downloadable WordPress resources for attendees and for you all to have.
- Maybe doing some live videos and short interviews with cool bloggers that I meet?
If you’re not doing anything during that time, follow my social network channels to find out how to follow the event. Usually on Facebook and Twitter, it should be BlogHer16 or #BlogHer16.
Before I go, I need to thank some of the sponsors that have generously supported me for BlogHer16. These are my larger sponsors, and I’ve asked specific friends that have services and plugins that are most helpful to bloggers. Because my presentations are about WordPress in general and WordPress Security, it makes sense to make sure they are represented here and in the upcoming downloadable resources for the event.
Optinmonster is one of the plugins I talk about at WordCamps. I use it on my website for my optins. I like that it allows for some A/B testing, and gives me a variety of methods to attract my visitors to subscribe to my newsletter.
Sitelock is a very reputable cloud-based website security company. It does integrate with WordPress, and will help you protect your investment… your website. If you don’t have a security plan for your website, or you’re having problems with your current security plugin or service, please check them out.
WP101 is one of the resources I highly recommend to my clients who are needing to learn WordPress, but I don’t have the time to personally teach it. I’ve mentioned WP101 in my ‘teaching clients WordPress’ talk. Their tutorials are high quality, and organized well, which is much better than hunting tutorials through Youtube all day.
If you’re reading this and you’re going to BlogHer16, please let me know in the comments below, or on any of my social network channels. I’d be happy to meet you there.
