Ask Nile: What Does Blog Syndication Mean?

By Nile Flores 13 Comments

ask-nile-thumbnailSo, for bloggers what does syndication mean? In this part of the Ask Nile Series, we talk about syndication. Some people have heard the term for other media, but may not be familiar with it in the blogosphere.

Blog syndication is a form of web syndication.

Wikipedia states that web syndication is:

Web syndication is a form of syndication in which website material is made available to multiple other sites.

What Does Blog Syndication Mean?

As a blogger, getting syndicated could really mean more traffic and more brand recognition. Sure, you can go find followers on social networks, and a loyal readership from your website, attract traffic from writing guest posts, but syndication with the right websites could bring in a lot more.

Syndication means that your posts are picked up by a larger website. This could be random, or something you have to pitch to the website. Those websites pick your articles because the believe you can add value that their massive readership will love.

How Can You Get Syndicated?

Getting syndicated can happen a couple ways.

  • You get invited to have your posts syndicated or added to a larger site. They will either approach you to add your feed, or ask you to think about submitting specific types of posts that they believe their readership will want to see.
  • You submit your website for consideration on being syndicated. Some places may be really busy and you just need to submit. If you know your content is good, then don’t be shy about submitting. The worst thing they can do is say ‘no’ for now.

These are pretty simple ways to get syndicated, but it all relies on how you’ve presented yourself and your content online. You don’t have to have an extremely amazing following, but that does work in your favor.

The places looking to syndicate blogs, are looking for high quality content. That makes sense, because if you’re sharing content that sucks, then you’re going to lose credibility if you’re the larger blog resource.

If you’re still not certain on what syndication means, feel free to comment below. Also, have you been syndicated lately.

    Hi Nile.

Could you give an example on what getting your feed added to another site looks like?

Also, I thought syndication also meant having others share your blog link through social media sites?

If you go to http://succeedasyourownboss.com , some of her posts have been syndicated to places like Huffington Post – Example: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/melinda-emerson/ .

That is another type of syndication. I’ll get into that in another post. 😉

I have had great luck in the past with syndication. It definitely increased traffic to my blog ten-fold with certain posts.

    Hi Nile,

Thanks for giving insights about blog syndication. I have syndicated my content to some websites like triberr, Medium and Reddit.

But i am still looking for right places to syndicate my content.

Please if you can provide a list of good blog syndication networks, it will be really helpful.

    Thanks

I have syndicated others’, but I have not been syndicated myself. Sounds like something to aspire to, though.

Nile, thank you so much. This is shared with simplicity through and through. Most people take time to learn that the more you read other’s blogs and have Sharaholic. You are leaving usable, supportable insight. Just giving your perception on subject being shared. Not just dropping sells pitches.

You are wonderful and amazing mentor, teacher and mother. Thanks for all the time you have given us support is so many ways. Can’t find the words in the dictionary to cove my appreciation.
