There is a lot of hype on people saying they are coaches or specialize in social media, but when it comes down to it, their experience is merely a year or two under the belt… especially online.
While social media is a special term that had been produced in 2009 for a type of marketing, people are jumping on board and claiming their success in that name.
However… is it really tried and true. Just because someone skyrockets in rank in Alexa, can it be that they are someone you should follow? Are they giving you they best information that could honestly get you ahead or are they feeling obligated to get you materials that cost you money and still happen to make you sink?
There are a lot of great places that have built a great and sturdy reputation over the past few years. These are the places that pioneered the way for a lot of bloggers today. While there are thousands of blogs helping bloggers get ahead, there are those who are giving accurate information.
The sites giving information are professionally paid and know a lot about websites, like developing and designing. These are the places that can deliver the articles that benefit even newbies who are desperately seeking information to get ahead with their website.
There are a lot of people who have risen in rank but do not have much in marketing experience other than one website that gives them status above others. While you may like one person, you will eventually build a guideline for what you expect of that person. You need to ask yourself:
- How long has the person been in the niche?
- Who are the people that influence them?
- Does that person rely more on the community? (Are they merely a place where the majority of the site is fueled by guest bloggers?)
The people who are successful are people noticeably speaking in coventions and even making money helping other businesses get ahead. While you might blog at some other site, you are merely getting link juice and some traffic.
If you want to get ahead, read after people who motivate you to get ahead like Liz Strauss and Chris Brogan.

Haha… I do have quite a bit to say about that. Most of the times in mockery. It seemed that there is a warped belief that knowing a lot of people equates to social media. But, my antic is always – a social media practitioner and a social butterfly are two different categories of people.

That is quite true. There are a lot of people who are social butterflies and can connect. They are well liked and may even be resourceful, but that does not always mean they are a social media expert.

I think it's really important that your tweets give as much quality to my followers as my blog content gives to my readers. I don't have a lot of time to terribly interactive on twitter, but I try to set some time aside to interact with others at least several times a week.

I do agree… if it is something someone can enjoy, converse about, or be inspired by… then I feel my job is great.
Someone mentioned… there is a big difference between a social butterfly and a social media marketing professional.

During this time when everyone is on Twitter, it can be a bit difficult to amass a huge following and then keep them subscribed. I know making quality tweets is going to help marketers or social media practitioners. However, it seems like no matter how hard some try to create quality tweets, some people just aren’t responsive.

Twitter and other social media are definitely something that can help expand your audience. The only challenge, I believe is to not lose touch of the personal and professional tone especially today when there are so many companies/individuals who spam these media.

Social media wasn’t not really my cup of tea as I am a very private person but with my work which my boss is actually convincing me to set up for an account, especially facebook, I don’t have a choice it’s where we get prospective clients and easy access to them.
