The way we create content as bloggers has changed. It’s usually been done with text and some images. Today, there are more people online, and more websites. Adding video to your blog can benefit you in ways that give you a leg up over others who have resisted creating videos.
If you add video to your blog, you definitely want to keep blogging that long form content. Below are 5 reasons why you should add video to your blog.
5 Reasons Why You Should Add Video To Your Blog
1. You should be creating content in as many mediums as possible. This means that you should seek out more than just text. Video, audio, and images are other mediums. Some people have a preferred format for taking in information. It could be because of time or just preference alone.
2. It adds a dynamic to your website that text cannot reach. Often people read text and miss out on the emotions that video can hold. Whether it’s you and your voice, or just your voice, your website visitors and fans can relate to you better.
For the introverts who don’t like putting their faces on video, you can still speak, and just use images. For example, some of my podcast presentations are also on video, and include the presentation slides of my talk. I haven’t included my face, but you can hear my voice.
3. Creating video content can take very little time. You don’t have to be perfect. Sometimes you could have a minute to convey an impromptu message. You could even do 5. You can also create longer content. When you post video with a minimal text (at least 300 words), you can use it as fast filler content that is just as valuable as other content that you publish on your website.
4. You can still market to other people using video. Places like Youtube allow you to place call to actions within your video. You can entice them to purchase a product or service, subscribe to your newsletter or Youtube channel, or go view a specific related blog post. Or you can do all of the above in each video.
5. You can make money when adding video to your blog. Youtube allows you to turn on monetization for your website, and they will deliver ads to your viewers.
Do you create videos for your blog? If so, what do you like best about creating videos for your blog?

I agree video can be very compelling content. There is certainly a place for text and images. But video offers new possibilities. Another very big advantage of video is that it can connect you to your readers more deeply. Our psychology is such that we can bond to videos more deeply and quickly. Photos can tap into our visual brain. And audio (podcasts) can tap into our connection to voices. But personal videos can create a strong connection. There are also plenty of options without including yourself in videos but including yourself is a great way to connect.

Good post, Nile.
Creating videos is one of the important thing to do when repurposing content. It also helps you build your personal brand and trust (like a bond with your audience) by publishing videos. It also improves the onpage dwell duration and improves.
No doubt that Vlogging is going to be the next thing within an year.
Cheers.

Thanks for sharing five excellent points Nile!
And while I definitely like all five of your suggestions, I
suspect # two readily applies to more than just me.
Because, creating a podcast, but also including a slide
presentation, is a proven strategy.
The vast majority of my 473 youtube videos, are simply
Power Point presentations, with me (off screen) narrating them.
Which is pretty much the same, as your podcast strategy.
So any camera shy marketer, can still expand their reach.
These are five excellent points. Thanks so much for sharing them!

Hi Nile Flores,
Bingo!, Adding up a video or a visual content to our blog, helps to get more and more traffic.
Now days, text content only, could be kind of boring to your customers.
As video graphics could attract them, in spite of writing well texts.
People now, want to see things and then follow that upon, apart from reading and writing.
Through videos, the bond between the customers and you, could be established more deeply.
These are some great and useful 5 points to add up.
Thanks for sharing this among us.

Tiffany Griffin says
For the past year or so I’ve been debating on whether or not I will add video to my blog. I think the biggest thing holding me back is the fact that I’m pretty camera shy and an introvert.
I love your tip for using images and your voice if you don’t want your face on camera. That’s something for me to consider that I hadn’t really thought of!
Thank you for the tips Nile.
Nile Flores says
Hi Tiffany!
Glad to hear that my tips are helpful. I’ve struggled with thinking of whether or not to put my face on camera, specifically on my channel. I’ve been filmed for WordCamp talks, so I shouldn’t be camera shy. I’m actually an extrovert by nature, but somehow hole myself up way too much.
However, after the habit of podcasting my presentations, I’ve gained the confidence that I will be going behind the camera later this year. There are a few pieces of equipment that I’m planning on purchasing to make the videos count. In this aspect, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. lol
I think you’ll do well with video whether it’s your own face, or just your voice. 🙂

I’ve seen a lot of poor quality videos out there, and this sometimes hurts the brand of the site owner. I think at least for the first video it should live up to a certain standard as not to hurt branding.
I agree videos are an important tool but it’s like cooking. At the wrong hands, someone might get a tummy ache.
Nile Flores says
HI Ben! I agree. I’m probably not the greatest at video because I produce screencasts and then my podcasts, I just add the audio and a graphics together. I’m working on putting content together. My first videos where people can see my face, probably won’t be a work of art, but even beginning fashion bloggers didn’t start out so fancy.

Hello Nile,
Recently a lot of people have been talking about adding videos to blog posts, i guess this is the new trend and it would only be wise for one to adapt so as to remain relevant.
I am camera shy and that should have been my excuse for not creating a video for my blog posts, but then you showed me the way out of that by mentioning that i can actually record my voice over slides and pictures and that’s exactly what i’m going to do, prolly i’ll overcome the camera shyness soon and start recording with my face 🙂
Thanks for sharing these tips.

Nice and informative post Nile Flores. Can you tell me does adding video increase website traffic or not?. Waiting for you reply.
Nile Flores says
Hi Sanjana! To answer your question, it really depends on whether you’re producing content that is grabbing your audience’s attention. If you’re not, then they’ll pass up certain content, including videos, versus other content. You have to research. Try Google Trends, since you cover topics that are based on real time news and pop culture.

Another good reason to add video to your blog is that it keeps people on the page longer and decreases your bounce rate, which helps in terms of SEO and keeping your audience on your site.
Even short videos can help accomplish this.

I have also found that adding video to blog posts helps with the bounce rate and keeping visitors on site for longer. Which is a metric that google no doubt looks at to determine how relevant your website is about a certain topic.
Adding video to one of my blogs meant that the average time on my site per visitor went from just over a minute to 8 minutes.
great stuff for not much extra effort.
