In the past few weeks, I’ve been really busy… like busier than usual. Since I celebrate Thanksgiving, I wanted to share some things I’m thankful for in 2015, especially for my business.
Occasionally, I write some tongue-in-cheek type posts. So this post is to be fun, but also encourage you to reflect on thinks you’ve been thankful for this year, whether your personal life, or your business.
20 Things About My Business that I’m Thankful for in 2015
- My son – He makes me laugh and smile. He’s also my #1 supporter. I’m really proud of him and glad to know that he’s always rooting for me.
- My dad – He’s always been there even in the rough times. He’s helped me a lot.
- My stepmom – Even though her health has been failing, she’s always been encouraging. She also knows what to say to literally kick me out of whatever funk I’ve landed in.
- Kimberly Castleberry – Maintaining any type of relationship is tough, including friendships. Kim has been there, has been understanding of things that have been going on, and even tolerant of me when I’m a jerk face.
- Team Yoast – Working for this team has been really fun. I’ve learned a lot, especially a better approach to how to handle clients better.
- I’ve listened more. – Sometimes I get so excited when I talk about things, that I forget to give someone else a chance. I’ve made it a goal to improve upon that.
- I’ve been more patient with people. – I’m not angry or upset as I was the past few years when people act a certain way. In fact, I’ve been laughing more often because of how people act.
- WordPress: My website wouldn’t be here without it.
- My local WordPress Meetup group in St. Louis – Thank you for being really supportive and allowing me to share my WordPress knowledge and experiences.
- Michele Butcher – She’s been a listening ear and I’ve enjoyed hanging out with another WordPress gal who tells it like it is… of course, it’s all tough love.
- Shayda Torabi – Shayda is one of those positive lights in my life that I need, especially the WordPress community. She has listened and we’ve gotten to break bread. I just know when she and I are both at a WordCamp, we gotta try some cool food place.
- WordCamp organization teams from St. Louis, Minneapolis, North Canton, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Las Vegas, Hampton Roads, and Orlando – Thank you for letting me come and meet (or in some cases, re-visit) your community. Each community is different and I just have enjoyed meeting a lot of you, and helping to give back however I can.
- Karla Campos – I’m so glad to have finally met you in person. Also, thank you for introducing me to your family. You all are so warm and welcoming.
- Kat Heart – Thank you for the opportunity to become a co-author of a book. I love writing, and being an author has always been a dream. I’ve been published as a poet, and have won a lot of writing contests ever since I was little, but a true author of something other than poetry… not until now.
- Andrena Ingram – Andrena is one of my oldest supporters of what I do, even before I moved to Blondish.net, and even before I bought my first domain. She’s seen my struggles and has been supporting me by just being there.
- My youngest sister, Michele – Before my sister moved, I watched Darien (my nephew) when he was a couple months old. Having him around brought a lot of joy. I love hanging out with my nieces and nephews, but I got to experience being with him a lot in his earlier months. I’m thankful for the relationship I have with my youngest sister, and for her bring a smile to my face when she posts pictures of my nephew. She may post them for other family too, but it makes my day sometimes.
- Marcie Hill – Marcie is such a wonderful lady and has been a client for years. I love that she’s open to ideas to hopefully help her website. She’s also encouraging, and has been very supportive of my work.
- My physical health – I’ve got a long way to go to improve my health. While I’ve not done too much, I’ve already started a new exercise plan to a healthier me.
- My mental health – I’ve not taken depression medication in about 2 years now. Yes, I cry, but not in despair or feel on the verge of making final decision. It is due to counselling, proper meds (and weaning off of them), sharing more of myself rather than keeping things bottled up, asking for help even though it’s not in my nature to, and surrounding myself by more positive people.
- Readers, fans, subscribers, clients – I really appreciate that you’ve found my work useful. I know this year has been rough on my blogging schedule, but I’m still here blogging after 14 years. A lot of it is your support.
I have a lot of things to be thankful about, and as you’ve read, I like to explain why I’m thankful. I find it more meaningful to do that, rather than plop a list.
Now, I’d like to hear what you’re thankful about this year. ๐

It is helpful to remember all the good things we have in life. From your list I think local interest groups are a great thing to take advantage of. Health is what I am most thankful for. And the ability to travel and actually the internet is a wonderful resources that I enjoy nearly every day.

It’s always good to show appreciation to those that has in one way or another affected ones life positively. About WordPress what else can we say about them, through their platform so many blogs and websites have been brought to life. The article was was good, thanks.

Imaging keeping your blog running for 14 years…impressive. I can honestly say that I am spending about 1 year on each project, and if I havent seen “tremendous success”, I just give up. But again, if you are able to list 20 things that keep you going you might have the motivation that I lack! ๐
Again: congratulations!

Hi Michelle! It is the drive and motivation that keeps me going. You’ve nailed it. ๐
Hopefully you will run into a venture that lasts for years and gives a great ROI.
